As a serial entrepreneur and investor during the credit crunch, Sherwood saw a need for a change in outdated securities laws and did something about it—as a co-founding member of Startup Exemption, Sherwood co-authored the Crowdfunding Framework used in the JOBS Act that was signed into law by President Obama on April 5, 2012.
Within Crowdfund Capital Advisors, Sherwood works with clients ranging from governments and banks that are looking for ways to boost economic development in their countries to investment firms looking for access to increased deal flow that crowdfunding creates. Sherwood serves as an advisor to several crowdfunding platforms and crowdfunding technologies giving him a unique understanding and view of the industry and market. As an industry leader, Sherwood contributes to several publications including VentureBeat and TechCrunch. He additionally wrote Crowdfund Investing for Dummies through Wiley & Son's.
Sherwood co-founded the Crowdfunding Professional Association (CfPA), serving as Governing Board Member and co-chair where he leads the fight to ensure investors are protected while entrepreneurs have access to the capital they need to start and grow promising companies.
Since co-authoring the Crowdfunding framework of the JOBS Act signed into law by President Obama on April 5, 2012, Sherwood is an in demand speaker traveling the world presenting to entrepreneurs, professional investors and institutions (local, state, national governments and NGO's), educating them on how to harness emerging CFI opportunities and how to build crowdfunding ecosystems to support innovation, strengthen businesses, and create thousands of new jobs.
Sherwood provides a global perspective on CFI and leadership of the movement to legalizing CFI in the United States and abroad. He has worked with governments and stakeholders in Mexico, Colombia, Turkey, Canada, the United Arab Emirates and Italy on Crowdfund Investing programs. As a result of Sherwood's leadership, Crowdfund Capital Advisors were awarded Key Partnership status with the US State Department's, Global Entrepreneurship Program, and joined the State Department's Official Delegation to the Global Entrepreneurship Summit in Dubai, UAE.
Sherwood has testified in front of the US Congress, presented at South by Southwest (Austin, Texas), World Economic Forum (New York, NY), Global Entrepreneurship Forum (Istanbul, Turkey), and the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (Dubai, UAE).
